TH3-MK3 Support harness
We put a full-size tri-band beam up in the trees! It takes good knot-tying skills to support a 36-pound beam from above!

Keeping the beam steady.
This picture was taken as the beam was
brought back down on Sunday. The
beam's orientation has to be held steady
during raising and lowering.

Wi-Fi at 5600 feet!
Our camp had it's own local Wi-fi net tosupport our networked logging program (FDLog). This system also provided internet access, albeit only at EDGE speeds (no high speed nodes up there!).

The balloon antenna.
We put up a vertical wire antenna using a weather balloon as the support. It's just about ready to launch.

Nearly ready now...
The crowd admires its handywork. And by the way, this makes a great antenna!

Going Up!
By the time it was deployed, we had a
5/8-wave vertical antenna on 80m!

Above the tree line.
The balloon ended up above the tree line.

Can you say "rock box"?
A metal box filled with rocks formed the
anchor point for the balloon antenna.
Simple, but effective.

Spring-loaded!
The bungie cord in the support system
provided for some "give" as the winds
came and went, which reduced stress
on the balloon as well as the wire.
