Field Day 2007

Every 4th weekend in June, Amateur radio operators from all over the world participate in a contest to see who can contact the most stations in a 24-hour period. For 2007, my friends and I head back to the Stanislaus National Forest to set up radios and string antennas through the trees.

Wi-Fi at 5600 feet!

Our camp had it's own local Wi-fi net tosupport our networked logging program (FDLog). This system also provided internet access, albeit only at EDGE speeds (no high speed nodes up there!).

The balloon antenna.

We put up a vertical wire antenna using a weather balloon as the support. It's just about ready to launch.

The crowd admires its handywork. And by the way, this makes a great antenna!
